01What is DropJib?
DropJib is statement delivery software for oil and gas operators. It takes the joint interest billing and revenue distribution runs an operator's accounting system already produces, splits the run into an individual statement for each working interest or royalty owner, delivers those statements by email and through an owner portal, collects payment on joint interest bills, and keeps a per-owner record of what was sent and when.
02Does DropJib replace my oil and gas accounting software?
No. DropJib sits downstream of your accounting system. Your general ledger, your allocations, your decimals, and your close stay exactly where they are. DropJib picks up at the point where the statement run finishes printing and handles everything from there — bursting, branding, delivery, payment, and the delivery record.
03What does DropJib integrate with?
DropJib is built to sit downstream of the systems operators actually run for JIB and revenue accounting, including PakEnergy (WolfePak), Quorum, Enertia, OGsys, Petrofly, SherWare, Avatar Systems, P2/BOLO, QuickBooks, and Excel. It does not require an API into your books. It consumes the printed statement run — the PDF or the print stream — which means the system you use matters far less than most integrations do. If your system can print a statement run, DropJib can take it.
04Can DropJib run on our own servers?
Yes. DropJib is available as a managed cloud service or installed onsite inside your own network. The workflow is identical either way; the difference is where the statements and owner data physically live.
05What does statement bursting mean?
Statement bursting is the process of splitting one large print run into separate documents, one per recipient. In oil and gas, a monthly JIB or revenue run can be several hundred pages covering every owner in every property; bursting detects where one owner's pages end and the next owner's begin, and produces a self-contained statement for each owner that can be emailed, posted to a portal, or printed on its own.
06How do I try DropJib?
Send a sample statement run and DropJib will show you what your owners would receive from it — your statements, your branding, your owner list. Start at dropjib.com and request a trial.
07What is joint interest billing (JIB) in oil and gas?
Joint interest billing is the process by which the operator of an oil or gas well bills each working interest owner for their proportional share of the costs of drilling, completing, and operating that well. The operator pays the costs up front, then allocates them among the partners according to their working interest percentages as set out in the joint operating agreement (JOA) and its attached COPAS accounting procedure. Each partner receives a monthly joint interest billing statement showing their share of each charge.
08What is a JIB statement and what is on it?
A JIB statement is the monthly invoice an operator sends a working interest owner. It typically shows each property the owner holds an interest in, the owner's working interest decimal, the joint account charges for the period broken out by category — intangible drilling, completion, lease operating expense, workovers, overhead — the owner's proportional share of each, any prior balance or cash call credits, and the net amount due. Statements commonly run several pages per owner because each property is itemized separately.
09How do operators send JIB statements to working interest owners?
Traditionally, by mail: the accounting system prints the full run, staff separate it by owner, stuff and meter envelopes, and mail them. Increasingly operators deliver JIB statements electronically instead — emailing each partner their own statement and posting it to an owner portal the same day the run completes. Electronic delivery removes print and postage cost, removes transit time from the payment cycle, and creates a delivery record showing exactly what was sent to whom.
10What is COPAS and why does it matter to joint interest billing?
COPAS is the Council of Petroleum Accountants Societies. Its accounting procedures are commonly attached to or incorporated into the joint operating agreement, and they define how costs may be charged to the joint account — including standardized cost classifications and the fixed overhead rates an operator may charge per well by status, escalated annually. JIB statements are prepared to comply with the JOA and its COPAS accounting procedure, and joint interest audits test that compliance.
11Can working interest owners pay their JIB online?
With DropJib, yes. The joint interest bill arrives with a way to pay it from inside the statement, so a partner can settle when they read it instead of routing a check through their own accounts payable weeks later. Payments come back tied to the owner, the period, and the property, with remittance detail attached.
12How do I prove a JIB statement was sent during a joint interest audit?
You need a record that ties each statement to a recipient, a timestamp, and a delivery result. DropJib keeps that record for every run: which owner received which statement, when it was sent, whether it was opened, whether it was re-sent, and what changed since the prior period. Any statement from any prior period can be retrieved or re-sent without rebuilding the run.
13What is a royalty or revenue statement in oil and gas?
A royalty or revenue statement — often called check detail — is the document an operator sends a royalty or mineral owner each month alongside payment. It shows, for each property, the production volumes sold, the price received, the gross value, severance and other taxes, post-production deductions, the owner's decimal interest, and the net amount paid to that owner for the period.
14Can royalty owners get their statements by email instead of in the mail?
Yes, with the owner's consent. Electronic delivery of check detail is the owner's choice, and some states specifically protect it — Texas, for example, requires a royalty owner's consent before a payor delivers the required check-stub information in any manner other than on the check stub, attachment, or remittance advice when payment is made by mailed paper check. The practical requirement is that consent is captured per owner and provable. DropJib records that consent with the owner record and keeps mailing paper to every owner who has not given it.
15Does DropJib handle revenue and royalty statements as well as JIB?
Yes. Joint interest bills and revenue statements run through the same pipeline. What differs is who is on the other end: a joint interest bill goes to a working interest partner and asks for money, and a revenue statement goes to a royalty or mineral owner and explains a payment. Both are delivered by email and portal, both keep a per-owner delivery record, and both can be re-sent from any prior period.
16What is an owner portal?
An owner portal is a secure website where an oil and gas operator's working interest and royalty owners log in to see their own statements and account information without calling the operator. A useful portal gives an owner their current statement, their full statement history, related documents, a way to update contact and payment details, and — for working interest owners — a way to pay a joint interest bill. It exists to answer the three questions that make up most owner-relations calls: where is my statement, why did the amount change, and can you send me last year's.
17What happens when an owner's email bounces?
A bounced statement is treated as an undelivered statement, not a completed send. DropJib flags hard bounces and repeat non-openers, routes those owners back to print and mail, and surfaces them as a list to work — because an owner you cannot reach is the front edge of a suspense and unclaimed-property problem, not just a delivery problem.
18Does DropJib calculate suspense, decimals, or 1099s?
No. Those are your accounting system's job and DropJib does not second-guess them. Suspense determinations, division-order decimals, severance tax, and 1099 reporting are calculated upstream. DropJib delivers what your system produces and keeps the record of that delivery.
19How long does a monthly statement run take with DropJib?
The manual work collapses to a drop and a review. Instead of separating a printed run by hand, stuffing envelopes, and metering mail over several days, an operator drops the finished run, reviews the owner matches and any exceptions DropJib held back, and releases the send. The remaining time is your review time, not your handling time.
20What happens if an owner is not matched to a record?
It is held, not guessed at. If DropJib cannot match a block of the run to a known owner — a new partner, an interest that changed hands, a name that no longer resolves — that statement is held out of the send and shown as an exception to resolve. Nothing goes to the wrong owner because the software decided to be helpful.
21Can I re-send a statement from a prior period?
Yes. Every statement from every run is retained per owner and can be retrieved or re-sent without rebuilding the run in your accounting system. That is the answer to most partner and owner phone calls, and to most audit requests.
22Do owners have to create an account to read their statement?
No. The statement is delivered to the owner by email as a document they can open, save, and forward to their own accountant. The portal is there for owners who want history, documents, self-service updates, or the ability to pay — it is not a gate in front of the statement itself.
23Who typically owns DropJib inside an operator?
The person who runs the monthly close — a controller, a JIB accountant, a revenue accountant, or an owner-relations lead. It is bought by whoever currently has to physically handle the statement run, and it is usually adopted first for whichever run is the biggest headache that month.
